The one day facilitator course is suitable for those wishing to run a LEGO®-based therapy group. Training is suitable for staff in schools and settings, and will provide everything needed to set up and run a group. Printable resources are provided, enabling delegates to set up groups without needing to prepare paper resources before to their first session (LEGO® or construction materials will need to be purchased before running groups). A booklet covering the detailed content of the training course is also provided.
The course is delivered by Dr Elinor Brett (Educational Psychologist). Dr Brett has 7 years experience setting up LEGO®-based therapy groups in schools and settings, and has also conducted doctoral level research into the impact of the intervention.
Content of training
The training focuses largely on the practical application of LEGO®-based therapy to schools and settings, and content is delivered through interactive group activities, practical sessions and discussions. The training covers:
Theory and principles behind LEGO®-based therapy
Practical application of LEGO®-based therapy
Setting up and running LEGO®-based therapy sessions in schools and community settings
Effective facilitation strategies
Monitoring progress in group members
Managing emotional and behavioural responses
Generalisation of social skills
Who is the training suitable for?
The training is suitable for anyone wishing to set up and facilitate a LEGO®-based therapy group. Facilitators are often teaching assistants, teachers, SENCOs, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, learning mentors and professionals with an interest in Autism. No specific qualifications are required prior to attending training.
